and we wonder that kids don’t know better than to cite, or plagiarise, wikipedia. A lot of books today are clearly rubbish (and there is a place for some of that) but copying parts of wikipedia and then claiming “Oh I wasn’t sure how to cite it – so I just didn’t bother” is somewhat disingenuous if you want people to take your writing seriously.

The home of systemic bias, pop culture writing styles, no academic review…need I go on.
Yes I find it a good read sometimes, but I’m not a researcher or writer. You can’t depend on it.
…and yes, it’s banned as a source at the teens school. Good.

Ugh I know. I’ve read a few things lately deploring the state of journalism and research but if you’re just going to get your research from wikipedia, why bother at all. Anyone can read info there anyway, so who’s going to pay to read a book sourced from there. The mind boggles.
